The Kiwanis Club of Burbank will celebrate their 16th Annual Gala. We will be honoring Burbank’s own Debbie Reynolds, a singer, dancer, and actress who for over six decades has enriched our lives. In 1948, Lockheed Aircraft sponsored the local “Miss Burbank” beauty pageant and 16-year-old Debbie Reynolds entered and won! She was offered a screen test by Warner Brothers Studios. She starred in many films including Singing in the Rain with Gene Kelly, starred on stage in Woman of the Year, had her own TV show The Debbie Reynolds Show, and a number one hit Tammy in 1957. This extraordinary woman’s career has touched all of our lives.
This year’s Gala is themed “There’s No Business Like Show Business” as our honoree, Debbie, reminisces through her successful career in entertainment and reminds us of the value of the Performing Arts programs offered in our local schools. Ms. Reynolds is a graduate of John Burroughs High School, and attended Burbank High as well. She is grateful for the Performing Arts programs that made such a difference in her life.
The purpose of the evening is to raise much needed dollars for the many charities and organizations that Burbank Kiwanis has supported over the years such as BTAC, Burbank High School’s Music and Drama Programs, Scholarships, and the children and families of the Burbank community. Your involvement can help make this event the success it needs to be. We ask that you consider contributing an item for our live/silent auction, purchasing a ticket or reverse opportunity ticket, or making a cash donation. Your generosity will be duly recognized at the event.
