Well folks, now that this year’s Oscars have wrapped it’s time to reveal what some of the nominees and winners are up to. I was lucky to spend time with the composers and songwriters who were nominated and it was a prestigious group. They included everyone from the multi award-winning composer legendary John Williams to 2013 Academy Award winner Adele.
The champagne reception was held poolside at a private home in Beverly Hills, and was presented by the Society of Composers & Lyricists in association with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Music Branch Governors.
Among those also in attendance besides the nominees were composers, lyricists, filmmakers, and SCL Board members such as David Newman, Charles Fox, and Alan and Marilyn Bergman.
One of the thrills of the afternoon was having a chance to meet the Oscar-nominated composers of my favorite contemporary musical Les Miserables. They are, respectively, Claude-Michel Schonberg, Herbert Kretzmer, and Alain Boubil.
Mr. Kretzmer wrote the legendary lyrics for “Les Miz” and is a former journalist himself. He shared with me that he once interviewed my father and since 2013 is the Centennial celebration of Stanley Kramer, Herbert promised me a copy.
He also revealed to me that Les Miserables will return to Broadway in 2014. And that’s some post-Oscar news.
