The new series Signed, Sealed, Delivered is off to a great start on the Hallmark Channel. The show created by Martha Williamson (Touched By An Angel) got good ratings for its debut outings and has great stories, a cool likable cast and a lineup of guest stars that will keep folks tuning in.
The family friendly sort-of-mystery show follows the lives of four postal workers who transform themselves into an untraditional team of detectives to track down the intended recipients of undeliverable mail. Eric Mabius of Ugly Betty and Scandal fame, Kristin Booth (The Kennedys, Orphan Black), and journeymen actors Crystal Lowe (Smallville) and Geoff Gustafson (Primeval: New World) star as the group of stalwart mail sleuths delivering the mail late, but somehow, exactly in the nick of time.
The original stories are a wonderful combination of romance, comedy and drama involving the post office team led by charming Oliver O’Toole (Mabius), a genius postal detective and the group’s leader; new team member, Shane McInerney (Booth), a technophile who brings 21st century sensibility to the group; free-spirited, “girl next door” Rita Haywith (Lowe) who has a photographic memory; and lovable Norman Dorman (Gustafson), a master in conventional research methods. They take on missions that get them out of the office and into an unpredictable world where redirected letters and packages can save lives, solve crimes, reunite old loves and change futures.
With Touched By An Angel, writer-producer Martha Williamson featured some of entertainment’s most iconic and talented stars who wanted to be part of one of the best family series in the history of television. Now Williamson is back doing it again featuring friends like four-time Emmy-winning actress Valerie Harper (Mary Tyler Moore, Rhoda) and five-time Emmy winner Dick Van Dyke (The Dick Van Dyke Show, Diagnosis Murder). Both stars will portray Postal Supervisors in a revolving role.
Other television icons featured through the run of Season One include Della Reese, Touched By An Angel costar, who is guest starring on a couple of episodes May 4 and 11, Marilu Henner is on May 25, and Valerie Bertinelli is upcoming. Plus one of America’s most beloved and respected performers, Carol Burnett has signed on as a special guest star on the highly-anticipated series finale in June. Executive producer Williamson and Burnett worked together when the comedienne did a memorable guest star role on Touched By An Angel. In Signed, Sealed, Delivered, Carol plays the grandmother of irrepressible mail detective Norman Dorman (Gustafson).
“I never cease to be amazed by the depth of Martha Williamson’s relationships in this business, as evidenced by her ability to invite one of the all-time Queens of Comedy, Carol Burnett, to be a special guest star on Signed, Sealed, Delivered,” said Michelle Vicary, executive vice president of programming for the Hallmark Channel. “Miss Burnett brings love and laughter to millions of people all over the world, and she is literally one of the most sought-after, legendary entertainers of all time. The reuniting of Carol Burnett and Martha Williamson will make for an unprecedented, must-see season finale.”
“Carol is an American legend who has used words to bring joy and laughter, to encourage, inspire and heal us through nearly six decades of life,” said series creator Martha Williamson. “It’s my privilege to welcome my hero and mentor to the show.” Signed, Sealed, Delivered has great stars for every generation, airing Sunday nights at 8 p.m. for 10 consecutive weeks.
