This Friday, The Pasadena Playhouse will kick off “SUMMER AT THE PLAYHOUSE – Music, Mayhem and Madness” featuring three exciting presentations this month. A Judy Garland Concert with Joey Luft features Judy Garland’s son Joey Luft making a rare public appearance (July 11th-13th) followed by Playhouse Rocks! with Tony® Nominee Powerhouse Mary Bridget Davies, a Tony Award® nominee for A Night With Janis Joplin which was presented last season at The Pasadena Playhouse and was the venue’s highest grossing show in its history (July 17th-20th). The month will end with Henson Alternative’s Puppet Up! – UNCENSORED, created by award-winning director, producer, and writer Brian Henson, and actor and improvisational guru Patrick Bristow with The Jim Henson Company’s renowned puppeteers (July 24th-26th).
“Each summer, thousands come to The Playhouse to enjoy effervescent artistic refreshments: a fun and eclectic mix of entertainment offerings in the cool and beautiful State Theatre of California, The Pasadena Playhouse,” said Executive Director Elizabeth Doran.
In A Judy Garland Concert with Joey Luft, discover new stories about pop legend Judy Garland as her son Joey Luft shares memories of his mother and unveils performance footage in color for the first time on the big screen. Also, enjoy an exhibit of Michael Siewert’s collection of Judy’s iconic wardrobe on display at The Playhouse.
Next, rock out with Mary Bridget Davies in her triumphant return to The Playhouse for a wild evening featuring additional world-class musicians, surprise guests with music direction by iconic guitarist Wayne Kramer of MC5.
And be sure to crack up with Henson Alternative’s Puppet Up! – UNCENSORED, a live and hilariously provocative puppet show for grown-ups.
