Pirates and mermaids greet guests at the 16th Annual Fourth of July Festival in Studio City.

“All You Need is Love” is the theme for the 16th Annual Fourth of July Fireworks Festival, organized by the Studio City Chamber of Commerce at the CBS Studio Center lot on Radford.

What makes it so fantastic? “The fireworks are spectacular and go on for 20 minutes. Plus, we’ve done all the food and entertainment planning for your holiday celebration,” says Esther Walker, executive director of the Studio City Chamber of Commerce, and director of the event. “Rocking the main stage will be ‘Paperback Writer,’ a great Beatles tribute band that’s perfect for our ‘All You Need Is Love’ theme. Also performing is Rhythm Section, with the show hosted by Josh Rubenstein, the great weather guy on CBS2 and KCAL-9. Plus, there are magic shows open to everyone; a family fun kids zone; and many food options. The Television Motion Picture Car Club will showcase incredible cars from movies and television that go back many years. And the VIP room is bigger and better than ever, with special entertainment by Lemon Twist.” Additional entertainment includes the Mutiny Magazine Pirates, Blacksheep Squadron model airplanes, and of course, the spectacular fireworks.

The event is always like a big neighborhood block party celebrating Independence Day. Walker says, “There’s a great sense of community and a small town feel to Studio City. The festival brings neighbors and friends together. It’s family friendly, and children five years old and younger get in for free. The kids love the dunk tank, the kids zone and magic shows, and being greeted by the pirates.” Festivities begin at 4:30pm and go until 9:30pm, with the fireworks as the grand finale.

Walker reports that the event also “raises money for The Children’s Tumor Foundation, and we donate funds to the North Hollywood High School music department, which is where our volunteers come from. So it’s a good cause and a really fun event for everyone: families, couples, friends and neighbors.”

Tickets are available online at, or by calling (818) 655-5916. General admission: adult $20, child (6-12) $10; for rooftop fireworks premium viewing wristbands — general admission plus $20; for VIP package: adult $100, VIP child (6-12) $50, VIP toddler (3-5) $15.
