D.E.E. Studio Productions Performing Arts Academy presents The Little Mermaid, directed by Nancy Horak, assisted and choreographed by Annie Horak, and musical direction by Virginia Stewart, open for one weekend only. Audiences will delight as characters glide across the stage, employing techniques from the Broadway show.
Prince Eric (Dade Elza/ Matthew Smolsky), aboard a ship, hears a beautiful voice commanding it to be followed. It’s Ariel (Kelly Boardman / Adrianna Eldridge), swimming the surface, admiring her new-found “dinglehopper” with Flounder (Lara Monti / Eric Schultz).
Sea witch, Ursula (Meghan Muriset/Nicole Reddinger) plans revenge against King Triton, Ariel’s father. When Ariel saves Prince Eric’s life, she falls in love with him — as does he with her.
Meanwhile, Ariel gives her voice to Ursula, in exchange for human legs. If the Prince kisses her within three days, she will retain her human form. Otherwise, she must return to the sea and live forever under Ursula’s domain. Be part of the audience and find out if they live “Happily-Ever-After.”
The Little Mermaid is set to open May 23—26. Performances will be Friday 8 p.m., Saturday 2 p.m. & 8 p.m., and Sunday 2 p.m. & 6 p.m., at The Hudson Backstage Theatre located at 6539 Santa Monica Blvd. in Los Angeles.
