The Stars Talk About True Blood’s Fifth Season on HBO

HBO’s True Blood stars went to Comic-Con and were treated like rock stars, as was the pro-ducer Alan Ball, who gave the en-thusiastic crowd some teasers about what’s upcoming. The HBO drama has just started its fifth season and Ball reports that three new romances are going to surprise everyone. Plus he let fans know that the background story of the deceased parents of Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) will be explored, and that will especially affect her trouble-making brother Jason (Ryan Kwanten).

Another thing that’s special about the current run of True Blood is that Stephen Moyer, who plays the super-hot cold-blooded vampire Bill Compton, got to direct episode eight of this season. It was nerve-wracking, he admits, but the entire cast had nothing but praise for his skills at the helm.

The popular cast includes Al-exander Skarsgard, Joe Man-gienello, Deborah Ann Woll, Sam Trammell, Rutina Wesley, and drop-dead gorgeous blonde Kris-tin Bauer van Straten, who relish-es her role as a vampire vixen.

Anna Paquin and her leading man Stephen Moyer got married in 2010, and now have a baby on the way, which will not get in the way of all the drama in their on-screen relationship. Although Paquin reports that Sookie and Bill’s love for each other will al-ways be a factor in the storylines, “no one wants these characters being happy because that doesn’t make for interesting stories.” So there are more troubles ahead.

Paquin says, “I welcome the challenge of adding to the texture of who she is. I think that any time the characters gets to do something wildly different, it’s fun, because you’re also trying to incorporate it into who they already are. As an actor, that’s an interesting challenge.”

It all helps create the mytholo-gy of the show that Paquin says, “Beats you to the punch as far as coming up with stories that have tremendous imagination and sort of shouts out ‘Wouldn’t it be really crazy if the characters did this or that?’” Chances are that the creative forces in the writers’ room have already gone to that crazy place.

The fans go crazy too, and the stars of True Blood have experi-enced their adoration every year at Comic-Con. Paquin has relished her many appearances and says, “The reaction at Comic-Con and enthusiasm for the show has been mind blowing. I’m having the best time of my life.”

The fans love True Blood be-cause it has everything. The steamy supernatural Southern saga has lots of sexy vampires, plus witches, shape shifters, the werewolves, and assorted other things that go bump in the night. After four unforgettable mind-blowing seasons of romance, suspense, mystery, and its signature dark humor, True Blood is now in its fifth season. And HBO just announced that it has been renewed for a sixth.

The series follows Sookie Stackhouse (Paquin), a sweet lit-tle mind-reading waitress at Mer-lotte’s bar. She has gotten into some horrible situations every since she hooked up with the gentleman vampire Bill Compton (Moyer) in the small Louisiana town of Bon Temps.

That place seems to be the epicenter for troubled blood suckers, and since the beginning of the show, Paquin admits Sookie has had a stubborn nature when it comes to friends and family trying to warn her about pending trouble.

“Sookie has definitely grown since she was first introduced, but she’s still stubborn,” Paquin says. “I think stubborn people get themselves in a lot of trouble, but they also get things done. And I think she’s a pretty good person to have in your corner.”

Plus, if Sookie wasn’t so stub-born, “our show would be a hell of a lot less exciting, because there would be a lot less danger for her to be rescued from,” Paquin insists, but adds, “I’m not just some little helpless thing. I can hold my own no matter what situations they put me in.”

Sookie has become more in-dependent over the years, and is operating from the position of not being needy this season. That de-cision makes her open to more interesting things happening. Tune in.
