Downtown L.A. has become quite a destination on my GPS.
My latest assignment: The Legacy Lounge, at a pre-VMA event, hosted by the Conga Room, TPGPR and various fashion, hair and cupcake creators. After all, isn’t that what reality stars from The Bachelor and Bachelor Pad care about? I noticed Erica, Natalie and Vienna. Don’t ask last names. ABC bills them with their first names only, like Cher and Madonna.
Although I was told that Justin Bieber and Diddy were on their way, I settled for chats with Dancing with the Stars pros – Tony Dovolani, Chelsie Hightower and Karina Smirnoff — because that’s how I roll!
Tony was concerned about his wife Lina and three children who were braving Hurricane Irene at home in Connecticut. “I don’t really escape the storm because I go through what they go through. I made sure they were as safe as possible before I left. My family is everything to me.” Tony looks forward to meeting his dance partner for the new season.
Cast mate Chelsie Hightower just returned from a summer of travel in the U.S and overseas. Although she arrived very stylish in a pair of cute stilettos, she sat down to change her shoes. “I couldn’t take it anymore,” she quipped. The dance pro must have gotten some instant energy from biting into Smallcakes, a Cupcakery based in Kansas City and Atlanta. Its owner guested on The View because it was Whoopi Goldberg’s favorite thing. He also appeared on several of the cupcake TV reality shows.
Being a gift-wrapista, I was drawn to a display in the room from The House of Cupcakes in Princeton, N.J. Now don’t get me wrong, I love sweets as much as the next person, but I have never seen such unique multi-hued boxes. They were truly a work of art! The top of each box (as a bow) doubled twirled like a pinwheel.
Healer/Masseur Art San with Sports Fitness Extreme gave skeletal treatments. Coincidentally, my back was aching. However, after consulting with Art, I walked away a new woman! He gave certificates to VIPs for consults in his downtown office.
Michael Vargas, CEO of clothing line Estovar, is also a dancer with Justin Bieber. “You’ve got to have a backup while dancing,” he says. Michael, who designed an array of tanks and sweatshirts, is headed on a South American tour with the Biebs. He told us that the pop singer gifted gal pal, Selena Gomez, with a bunch of his casual clothing line.
Gavin Tatum created Schoodie, a scarf/hoodie popular with the music crowd. Although it was nearing 100 degrees outside, many celebs wore them inside because of the comfortable material. Many hovered over the Studio Life tee shirts, as their newveau designs of celebrities were the rage. We’ve never seen Audrey Hepburn look so 2011.
