Zedakiah Koterba Performs at Toyota Speedway, His 100th Performance of the National Anthem at a Sporting Event

Zedakiah Koterba – “The Heartland Kid.”

Thirteen-year-old Zedakiah Koterba from Burbank will sing the national anthem at his 100th major sporting event. Zedakiah “The Heartland Kid” will be singing the national anthem at Toyota Speedway in Irwindale, Calif., on Oct. 15. Zedakiah is a straight-A student who loves God and his country. With such an overwhelming amount of spirit and enthusiasm, it’s no surprise he brings entire stadiums to their feet in applause when he sings the national anthem.

A down-to-earth kid, I had the opportunity to speak with Zedakiah during a break in his vocal lesson this past Friday. When I asked about performing a staggering 100 times, he had this to say:

“It feels wonderful – I can’t believe it. I was seven years old when I first sang at an Omaha Royals game.”

He’s come a long way since then. Zedakiah has sang the national anthem for the LA Lakers (his personal favorite), LA Clippers, Lancers Hockey, NCAA UNO Hockey, Special Olympics, and Monster Truck Jam (ESPN), to name a few. Zedakiah has also performed with Michael Bolton on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and appeared on The Tonight Show twice as the voice of Justin Bieber.

Zedakiah grew up in Omaha originally and moved to Los Angeles when he was 10. Though he misses his family and friends from home, he loves being in LA, the land of opportunity.

The musical bug has been alive inside him for as long as he can remember, and his parents have been supportive throughout the years.

Lately, Zedakiah has been listening to Black Eyed Peas, Green Day, and B.o.B., though his favorite artist has to be Bruno Mars, who’s “more his style.”

When asked about where he’d like to be in five years, Zedakiah said:

“For people who’ve told me I can’t throughout the years, I’d like to prove to them that anything is possible. All you need is a dream, a bit of luck, and perseverance.”

Oh, and talent, something “The Heartland Kid” knows a little about. Congrats on your 100th performance, Zedakiah, and here’s to 100 more!
