Greetings! Councilmember Tom LaBonge presented President Barack Obama’s Proclamation for Memorial Day at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Hollywood on Monday. Hundreds of honored veterans were joined by their families at the event which included a touching bagpipe rendition of “Amazing Grace.”
On Thursday, the Councilmember joined excited on-lookers an at the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens’ Campo Gorilla Reserve to watch the seven resident gorillas consume a special feast of fruit and vegetables. The feast was held to promote the 40th Annual Beastly Ball, a fundraiser scheduled for June 19.
Councilmembers Janice Hahn and Jan Perry joined Councilmember LaBonge on the steps of City Hall to urge voters to vote “no” on Proposition 16, on the June 8th ballot. The Los Angeles City Council and concerned members from other cities and non-profit organizations expressed concern that the measure would obstruct green energy innovation and raise energy rates for Californians.
The City of Los Angeles has been invited to participate in the Los Angeles County Energy Program (LACEP), a comprehensive energy-efficiency building retrofit program. The City Council is expected to hear a Department of Water and Power report on the cost-to-benefit analysis within 30 days.
Micheltorena Elementary School needs your vote! The school is being considered for a $25,000 grant from Nature’s Path to create a community and school garden to replace a parking lot.
Tour LaBonge, the Councilmember’s series of summer evening bike rides, begins on Wednesday, June 16th with a 10-mile gentle, fun ride downtown. Makeover of Burbank/Los Angeles Border Street
Councilmember LaBonge will join neighbors from the City of Burbank and City of Los Angeles to announce the much-anticipated resurfacing of Clybourn Avenue, which serves as a border between the two cities.
From its north end at Riverside Drive to its southern terminus at Toluca Lake Avenue, Clybourn Avenue has long been in need of resurfacing. Councilmember Tom LaBonge has been meeting with public works officials from both cities to reach an agreement that ultimately led to this two-phase resurfacing project.
A kick-off ceremony to mark the start of the project’s first phase will take place on Clybourn Avenue and Riverside Drive at 8:30 a.m. with refreshments provided by Paty’s Restaurant. Burbank Mayor Anja Reinke and City Manager Michael Flad will join Councilmember LaBonge and members of the community to celebrate the resurfacing.

Huntington Learning Center Joins Federally Funded Free Tutoring Program Through LAUSD
Registration for free Supplemental Education Services through Los Angeles Unified School District is starting soon and Huntington Learning Center, one of the recognized providers for this service encourages parents of eligible students to watch for the blue registration brochures being sent out now in the mail. Huntington Learning Center will be providing services to students approved through the district in one of its main centers in Encino and Woodland Hills and in a new extension location in Panorama City, conveniently located near Roscoe and Van Nuys and easily accessible by both public and private transportation.
Glendale Quilt Guild Meetings
Glendale Quilt Guild Meetings are held on the Second Wednesday of each month at the Glendale Central Library, 222 East Harvard, Glendale, CA at 6:00 p.m. The next meeting will be held on June 9, 2010 with the feature speaker Alicia Campbell “Everything You Need To Know About Batting.” Meetings are free to members.
