Taste of Downtown Burbank

What better recipe for success than to give food lovers the chance to sample every flavor under the sun and save the planet at the same time? That’s exactly what organizers of the Eighth Annual Taste of Downtown Burbank have in mind by uniting 40 of Burbank’s finest restaurants, a Beer and Wine Garden, chef demonstrations, live music and the Burbank Recycle Center to create the green culinary event of the year. Proceeds benefit the Burbank Community YMCA financial scholarship fund.

Tickets give access to unlimited food samples, chef demos, and live entertainment featuring blues legend Barbara Morrison and Vegas-style hipsters Phat Cat Swinger. Prices range from $30 for all you can eat, per person; $45 including the Beer and Wine Garden, and $10 for children 12 years old and under.

Family Skate Night

Every Saturday night, Burbank Roller Hockey Rink holds a night where families can come out and skate around — to just have some fun as a family! Admission is $5 for individuals; for the whole family $20, regardless of the number of children. If kids wear their hockey gear, it’s a dollar off. There are lots of skates for kids, but less for adults, so bring your skates if you have ‘em!

LOS ANGELES

Day of the Horse

Councilman Tom LaBonge introduced a motion — passed by the City Council on Friday — to make Oct. 1 the “Day of the Horse” in the City of Los Angeles. The City Council calls upon all citizens to recognize and appreciate the role of the horse in our history, heritage, and economy. Also, we recognize the long-standing, cross cultural equestrian lifestyle and the need to preserve this lifestyle enjoyed by so many Los Angeles citizens who every year participate and sponsor civic activities to celebrate and inform everyone about the vast contributions of the horse to the Southern California region and the entire nation.

Salute to Law Enforcement and Firefighters

Councilmember Tom LaBonge and representatives of the LAPD, the LA County Sheriff’s Department, the California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles Fire Department will hold the annual “10-4 Day” Parade in Hollywood. “10-4 Day” celebrates the fantastic job these first responders do in keeping us safe and healthy in the City of Los Angeles. Come salute the men and women who protect and serve us every day and help us broadcast a very important public safety message.

The “10-4 Day” Parade through Hollywood will feature a restored 1955 Buick CHP cruiser like the one in the 1950s Police Drama Highway Patrol starring Broderick Crawford.

Parade will commence from Los Angeles City Fire Station 27 1327 North Cole Ave.
Then proceed to the Broderick Crawford Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame
6801 Hollywood Blvd. Tuesday, Oct. 4, 11:30 a.m.
