Councilmember LaBonge Supports L.A. River Revitalization
T46-Community News 1 Tom LaBonge TomatLARIverPressresizedOn Oct. 17, at the Los Angeles River Center and Gardens Atrium, Councilmember Tom LaBonge joined a group of City, County, and State elected officials that took part in a media availability to show their support for an aggressive plan to revitalize the Los Angeles River. Councilmember LaBonge unites with Congressman Xavier Becerra, Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard, Councilmember Gil Cedillo, Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell, Councilmember Jose Huizar, Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian, Assemblymember Jimmy Gomez, Assemblymember Richard Bloom, and Councilmember Laura Friedman, City of Glendale. City Officials expressed their support to Alternative 20, the most inclusive plan in the Army Copr study. This alternative would require the City and its local partners to pay 46% of the total cost (approximately $497 million) and would include significantly more channel terracing and restoration at two additional key areas).

L.A. Regional Food Bank Thanks Los Angeles for 40 Years of Support with 40 Days of Giveaways
As a year-long observance of the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank’s 40th the Food Bank is thanking the community for its support. Donors, volunteers, and advocates have enabled the Food Bank to distribute 1 billion+ pounds of food since 1973. During the “We L.A.” online promotion – with items provided by L.A.-area businesses and attractions – the Food Bank is giving away a prize every day for 40 days, through Nov. 22.

Pasadena Jaycees Hosting Annual “Operation Gobbler”
In November 2013 the Pasadena Jaycees in conjunction with Friends in Deed will conduct their annual Operation Gobbler project in Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley.

For over 25 years Operation Gobbler has given thousands of low income families in the San Gabriel Valley the privilege of cooking a delightful Thanksgiving meal in their homes that they would not have been able to afford otherwise.

Get involved! Everyone can help keep this meaningful tradition going by….

Food Donations: canned mixed vegetables, boxed mashed potatoes, boxed or canned soup, canned green beans, cranberry sauce, dried stuffing, canned fruit, canned corn, canned yams, turkey & gravy.

Sponsor a Family: $45 – large family, $40 medium family, or $35 small family.

Volunteer: help collect donations outside of local supermarkets any Saturday or Sunday 11/02/13–11/17/13 and/or help sort & bag on

San Fernando Valley Master Chorale Presents….
A double treat awaits theatergoers when the San Fernando Valley Master Chorale, under the direction of Terry Danne, presents Kristin Towers-Rowles, the granddaughter of movie star Kathryn Grayson, in a program of her MGM musicals including Showboat, The Desert Song, and Kiss Me, Kate. This dazzling segment will be followed by a “Les Miserables” Revue featuring the best of this world-renowned production. The sterling cast features Kevin Story as Jean Valjean, Quentin Garzon as Javert, Karen Matranga as Fantine, Yilin Wetland as Eponine, Rusty Gregg as Marius, Annalise Freeman as Cosette, Sara Rowe as young Cosette, Andrew Metzger as M. Thenardier, Jennie Fahn as Mme. Theanardier, Kyle Swanson as Enjolras, and Joaquin Labado as Elder Statesman. Tickets are $25 general, $20 seniors and military, $15 Students, and $30 at the door.
