A welcome addition to the Toluca Lake ethnic dining scene, Malbec offers Argentinian cuisine in a friendly setting at 10151 Riverside Dr. daily for lunch and dinner except Sunday.
Starters include beef, chicken, or ham empanadas proscuitto wrapped mozzarella and carpaccio followed by the freshly prepared soup of the day, a satisfying ensalada, and a flavorful array of appealing main course specialties. A remarkably tender and tasty grilled beef skirt steak served with assorted fresh veggies, $17.95, and a plentiful spinach and cheese ravioli, $15.95, are recommended specialties.
The place has been tastefully remodeled with table or counter seating by enterprising siblings Pablo and Luciano Alcorta with fellow Argentinean partner Javier Pardini.
Malbec offers wine or beer with meals. They serve ‘til 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
New in Studio City, the Green Apple China Bistro at 12265 Ventura Blvd. is a casual sit down or carry out place with an extensive Chinese menu with signature dishes like steamed filet of sole, smoked orange peel beef, lemon shrimp chow fun with black bean sauce, and chicken in lettuce wrap. Open daily til 10 or 10:30 p.m.
Worth a sweet stop is Marie Callender’s whole pie to go sale offering 30 flavors at $7.99 plus tax each. Pie is what MC’s does best and the special October price is right.
