Extreme Makeover Home Party Benefits Habitat for Humanity
It was called the “Extreme Thank You Party” hosted by Nature’s Own and Hollywood Branded Inc., and by far it was the most comfortable event in recent memory. After the celebrities were photographed arriving on the red carpet, many of the ladies kicked off their sky-high heels and slipped into cozy Dearfoam slippers to stroll around. The party took on a “construction site” theme at the Book Bindery in Culver City, with hunky hard-hat handymen and pretty tool time girls on hand to pose for pictures with everyone.
It was a wonderful way to celebrate how the cast, crew and staff of ABC’s hit show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition have helped create, design, build, and make dreams come true for many deserving and inspiring families. Home Edition designers Paige Hemmis, Jillian Harris and Tracy Hutson were beaming, understandably proud of such a great season of big surprises saturated with happy tears.
Hemmis chatted about how necessary it is to have a box of tissues handy when watching the show, because you will cry when Ty Pennington yells “Move that bus!” and the family gets the first glimpse of their new home.
“It is one of the most uplifting shows on the air, because lives get renovated as much as the houses,” said Hemmis, who is a longtime supporter of Habitat for Humanity. So is Tracy Hutson, who participated in a silent auction benefiting the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles.
For the home makeovers, product brands partner with the production to help turn the house into a home. For the party, wonderful brands helped pamper all the happy helpers. On hand were Nature’s Own, Dearfoams, Gigaset Communications, Passion Growers, Patron, iComfort by Serta for sleepy-heads and Syneron, which gave guests the opportunity to relax with an amazing VelaShape spa treatment. There was fun and great food from Chipotle, Boston Market, Fresh Brothers pizza, By Hand Granola, Sensible Portions, Nature’s Own bread, and more.
Spotted was cutie-pie starlet Zendaya Coleman from Disney’s Shake It Up, happy to lend her support for the teams with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and Habitat for Humanity. Kathryn Joosten, the good neighbor from Desperate Housewives, loved the idea, putting on the Dearfoam slippers. “These are the most comfortable things ever,” Joosten said.
Guests and sponsors were given the opportunity to make donations to benefit Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles, the non-profit organization founded on the idea that every man, woman and child should have a safe and affordable place to live. The Habitat folks told me their goal of making decent shelter a matter of conscience and action is being accomplished with the help of hardworking people from all backgrounds, races and religions. Volunteers join together to work with families who put in “sweat equity” helping to build their own homes. That’s serious business, but the party was a chance for everyone to kick back.
“We are honored to have created such an interactive event allowing brands to directly engage and provide pampering, gaming and fun for the hard working individuals of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and their guests,” explained Stacy Jones, president of Hollywood Branded Inc., a leader in global entertainment marketing. “The cast and crew of the show have spent over 30,000 hours building nearly 200 homes for families in need, and have touched the hearts of millions across the country. This was a special way of saying ‘thank you’ for making a difference.”
Guests included Dijon Talton and Chris Mann from Glee, Julianna Rose from The Young & the Restless, Marisa Lauren from 90210, Tanya Chisolm from Big Time Rush, Sianoa Smit-McPhee from Hung, Aml Ameen from Harry’s Law, Disney singer Alina, Carla Ortiz, named one of Esquire’s 100 Sexiest Women in the World, Charlene Amoia from How I Met Your Mother, and more. Some of the celebs enjoyed playing poker sponsored by Dearfoams, which is an official partner of the World Series of Poker. Like the people from Habitat for Humanity, the poker players also like to see a “full house!”
