A Toast to Life!
By Addie Daddio
There is good news in these challenging times. When the going gets tough, people find a way to reach out and help one another. Neighbor to neighbor, communities are finding unique ways to fill the gaps created by economic uncertainty.
The Daddio Collective brings together like-minded people to serve, encourage, create and uplift. They believe that by sharing our strengths, we will each have our needs met. This month, The Daddio Collective includes: The Discovery Shop, Trader Joe’s, Councilman Tom LaBonge and The Tolucan Times in an exclusive partnership for “A Toast…!” a charitable wine tasting and vintage sale event. “A Toast…!” benefits the American Cancer Society (ACS) and is a kick-off celebration for their 2009 Relay for Life.
Amy Widener, manager of the ACS Discovery Shop said, “A lot has changed in the 14 years we’ve been open. We wanted to find a way to let people know that we are here, and we can help. As a re-sale shop, we have beautiful, quality goods at prices everyone can afford – especially now. We were looking for a different way to meet our community. That’s when we talked with The Daddio Collective about a fundraising event.” Widener added, “We are also thrilled that Councilman LaBonge is part of this event!”
The generosity of Trader Joe’s has made “A Toast…!” possible. Allen Holmquist, Trader Joe’s Toluca Lake Store Manager, has chosen wines of exceptional taste and value for the tasting. (Trader Joe’s is also providing light food.) Holmquist said, “Trader Joe’s looks for opportunities to get involved with our local communities. This was the perfect event for Trader Joe’s to support the ACS and give back to the community it serves.” Sommelier and wine educator DiMaggio, along with New England wine and food expert Chris Dixon, will provide tasting and pairing notes. It’s the perfect time to find out how to choose the best Trader Joe’s wine for your upcoming holiday meals. You can sip, savor, shop and mingle!
The Discovery Shop will be featuring its Vintage Collection for sale during the event. Information from the American Cancer Society and how to sign-up for Relay for Life will also be available.
The support of The Daddio Collective has made “A Toast…!” possible. The event will be on Sunday, March 29 from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 and are available at The Discovery Shop (10124 Riverside Drive, Toluca Lake). They will also be available the day of the event. Celebrate life and community with us at “A Toast…!”
