American Legion Post 150 – Burbank to Host Monday, May 27, Memorial Day Celebration at Valhalla Pierce Brothers
Valhalla Pierce Brothers Memorial Park (located at 10621 Victory Blvd., North Hollywood) will be the staging area for the 2013 Memorial Day Celebration as presented by the Burbank American Legion, Post 150.
The event being held on Memorial Day, May 27, at 10 a.m. promises to have celebrity speakers, some of which include Burbank Vice-Mayor Dr. David Gordon and newly elected, Councilman Bob Frutos.
Boy Scout Troop 219 will present the Colors, as vocalist Johine Carreno performs the National Anthem. Special Patriotic Music by the Bells Air Brass Band, and everything topped off with a seated luncheon after the event.
According to American Legion Post 150 Past Commander Ralph Walker, “This year we will really have a moving ceremony, complete with a Dove Release as Army National Guardsman Paul McKenna places a Memorial Wreath at the foot of the Veterans Memorial.”
Hundreds of flags were laid on Friday by Scouts to commence the weekend celebration. A newly installed urn at the tomb of the Vietnam Memorial is there to facilitate flowers for anyone to remember a loved one of that conflict.
The event will crescendo to a 21 Gun Salute, Benediction by Pastor Mike Johnson (Shepherd of the Hills), and the Sounding of TAPS.
“Pierce Brothers Valhalla has graciously hosted our ceremony for many years. We appreciate them greatly as a good community supporter,” Walker says.
The public is invited to attend. Shaded seating to enjoy the ceremony and after a lite luncheon provided by Valhalla. Javier Fernandez, General Manager of the community-minded Memorial Park, invites everyone to come and enjoy. Lots of parking. The ceremony will commence promptly at 10 a.m.
