Wanna laugh until tears roll down your cheeks? Wanna help the terrific local Group Rep at the Lonny Chapman Theatre? Well, get ready for the “yuk yuks,” because a great comedy show is being presented by the funniest guys on earth (with good clean comedy), with a reception following the performance.

The must-see Yarmy’s Army One Night Only Fundraiser Event will be on Wednesday, April 21 at 7:30 to benefit the Group Rep. Yarmy’s Army is a madcap group of some of the most wonderful comedians of TV and film. Some of the regular performers with the group who have signed on include Shelley Berman (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Steve Landesberg (of Barney Miller fame), Jack Riley (The Bob Newhart Show), Sam Denoff, Howard Storm and Jim MacGeorge. Pat Harrington, Jr. (One Day at a Time) emcees the group. Plus original Hollywood Squares host Peter Marshall is also a great big band singer, and will delight audiences with classic toe-tapping tunes. Others may appear as available, and some are subject to change, but it’s always a great group of pros. Yarmy’s Army was named after comic Dick Yarmy (brother of Don Adams) to honor him by donating time and talent to raise money for special worthwhile causes.

The Group Rep has presented many fine productions over the years and now needs to raise funds for necessary theatre amenities. So the folks there decided to have a fundraiser that would tickle your funny bone. Call 323-822-7898 or go to www.thegrouprep.com for tickets, $30. Seating is limited. The Lonny Chapman Theatre is at 10900 Burbank Blvd., North Hollywood. See you there with a smile on your face!

Speaking of comics, Toluca Lake’s own George Lopez unveiled his wax figure at Madame Tussaud’s museum in Hollywood on April Fool’s Day. He not only approved the remarkable likeness, he also kissed the statue, and said he could not be happier about being immortalized. Then he took his statue over to Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank for a taping of TBS’ Lopez Tonight, which he proudly says has “brought the party back to late night.” Check it out, it’s funny.

Boasting an impressive Broadway pedigree, Lee Roy Reams has a local engagement that’s sure to get musical theater fans excited. An Evening with Lee Roy Reams will be in the spotlight April 13th for the next “Cabaret at the Castle” show at the world famous Magic Castle. He is a song and dance man nonpareil who has had starring roles in the musical hits 42nd Street (a performance that earned him a Tony nod), The Producers, Beauty and the Beast, La Cage aux Folles, Applause, and many more. You don’t have to be a member of the Magic Castle to enjoy the “Cabaret at the Castle” show. Call 323-851-3313, and a portion of the tickets will benefit the Sealed With A Wish Foundation, a nonprofit group that sends care packages to our soldiers serving in combat zones.

More news from the Magic Castle: Neil Patrick Harris will be hosting the 42nd Annual Academy of Magical Awards. It will be a star-studded affair on Sunday, April 11th at the Avalon Hollywood on Vine. Jason Alexander, Lance Burton, Christina Hendricks, Steve Valentine, Jeff Probst, Mark Wilson, Max Maven, Mac King, Larry Wilmore and Nigel Lythgoe will be among the presenters. And the stellar group of magical performers will include Rudy Coby, The Great Tomsoni & Co., Armando Lucero, Yo Kato, Andrew Goldenhersh, Jeff Hobson, John Calvert and Ed Alonzo. According to Harris, who is also producing the show with Matt Patton, the lavish show will celebrate the world of mystery and illusion by gathering the top magicians from all over the world for one spectacular “abracadabra” night!
