Oscar® Night of 100 Stars!
Norby Walters’ party “Night of 100 Stars” is always the best Oscar black-tie, red carpet, formal, seated dinner viewing party in Los Angeles. Where else can you sit with stars, enjoy a gourmet meal in the Crystal Ballroom of the world renowned Beverly Hills Hotel? For $1,000 per ticket, that’s a bargain considering what you get.
This was veteran agent Walters 19th Annual Night of 100 Stars Gala held in the luxurious Beverly Hills Hotel’s Crystal Ballroom-and this time there was over 200 stars. Often dubbed the heir apparent to the famous Swifty Lazar who held some of the most fabulous Oscar soirées at Spago, Walters has taken up the gauntlet and hosts over 200 stars each year at his fabulous event.
Stars include past Academy Oscar nominees as well as a fabulous cache of Hollywood icons, both from TV and film. “If you’re not presenting or nominated- this is the party you come too,” said Edward Lozzi, the events public relations coordinator. It’s a great place to get glamorous and watch the Oscars with serious actors” said Walters, the host for the last 19 years.
Yours truly had friends in from out of town, one of whom designs spiritual jewelry for wealthy patrons around the world including the famous Porsche family, famous stars and those spiritually inclined. I took her down the press line. My friend was awestruck when she spotted the scene on the red carpet; later she confided that for a split second, she felt like the Romans did when they entered the lion pit.
Night of 100 Stars always has the most press, outside of the actual Oscars. It was wild, wooly and fun! There we were rubbing elbows with Lou Ferrigno, everyone yelling for the Hulk, on the other side was Jose Conseco smoking a new electronic cigarette as their smokes-person (oops, meant spokesperson) and hundreds of stars all around us, like a huge red Congo line. It took about one hour for us to make our way through it, with over 300 world-wide credentialed media, but every second was a ball.
Stars enjoying the fun included: Chevy Chase, Daniel Baldwin, Erika Christensen, David Carradine, Dominick Dunne, James Cromwell, Cindy Margolis, Laura Dern, Frances Fisher, Robert Forster, Shirley Jones, Lance Hendriksen, Harry Hamlin, Martin Landau, Jason Ritter, Kristy Swanson, Alan Thicke, Doris Roberts, Fred Willard, Sean Young, Amy Yasbeck, Robert Townsend, Peter Bogdonovich, Powers Booth, Steve Baldwin, Buzz Aldrin, Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth, Garcelle Beauvais-Nilan, Lucy Lawless, Chris Noth (Mr. Big in Sex and the City), Stephanie Powers and over 150 more. Over 40 former Oscar winners and nominees were in the room.
The party was seen around the world broadcast live on the worldwide Web by Fashion TV and was seen by over 70 million people and has done this online for the past 5 years.
My table was a show in itself; there was almost no reason for me to get up and walk around and schmooze, because I was seated with the wild, sex goddess Brigette Nielsen, actor John Heard, one of the most fun guys ever, the very handsome and charming Lorenzo Lamas, ravishing actress Josie Davis in a $20,000 gown, former star of NBC’s Titans, with four films coming out this year and often seen on CSI: Miami. Seated not far from us, was another friend, the star of CSI: Miami, Sophia Milos in a fairy tale Cinderella gown of beige crystals and carrying a fabulous Clara Kasavina handbag.
I enjoyed the company of my dinner companions enormously and we all also enjoyed the 5-star cuisine of the Beverly Hills Hotel including French and California fine wines, Chicken Cordon Bleu, truffles, tar tar, French Basil Salad, multiple fresh baked breads, Belgian Chocolates, praline crème brûlée, sherbets and ice creams and rare cheeses and after dinner cordials.
More folks wanted photos with Nielsen than anyone else in the room, with the exception of Chevy Chase, whom you don’t often see in LA, cruising and schmoozing a room.
Diminutive Vanity Fair columnist Dominick Dunne popped in for a bit to check out the wild scene before going over to the somewhat sedate Vanity Fair party.
The natural beauty of the Crystal Ballroom was enhanced by a sea of red-and-white roses with golden ribbons in the form of motion picture film stock.
This year may have been one of the best Oscars in decades. The debonair Hugh Jackman, song and dance man extraordinaire, stole the evening, especially the numbers with Beyoncé Knowles. When he carried actress Anne Hathaway out of her seat and onto the stage, that was another highlight; so who knew she could sing too?
There were many parties on Oscar Night, and some of them a really hard ticket to access, but, if you are fortunate to be a real star and former Oscar nominee and just happen to play poker with Norby Walters, you had the best seat in the house. If you are a civilian, as Walters refers to anyone who is not a star and you bought a ticket early before all spaces were taken, then you know it is the best way to see the Oscars and makes you feel like a star yourself.
Many of the most beautiful women in this city attend Night of 100 Stars, not only a fabulous party producer, Walters knows the mix of beauties enhances the already glittering ambience of his party. The gowns on these fabulous figures were the best fashion show I’ve seen in years.
Not only do you have a whole party in the Beverly Hills Ballroom, but there is another entire party going on in the bar. The open bar served the Hotel’s best mixed exotic drinks bearing names of the Oscar nominees. A ticket to the party in the bar is just part of the adventure with some of the most beautiful women in this city just looking for their prince charming.
Can’t wait for next year!
