Time for Jo Anne Worley
I want to talk about Toluca Lake’s official fun lady, Jo Anne Worley. She is in high gear working on stage and staging the big yearly Celebration of Caring benefit for Actors and Others for Animals, of which she is the very busy and diligent President.
Save the Dates
October 4 or 5, and November 14. There is a very good time in store as Jo Anne will appear at the Magic Castle on October 4 and 5. “I’m looking in the rearview mirror of my life and liking what I see,” says Jo Anne about her new show Keep Laughing. It’s a celebration of her life in music and comedy that is guaranteed to keep audiences laughin.’
Jo Anne Worley is best known for her comedy on Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In. She recently was a wicked woman in Wicked here in L.A., coming right from a Broadway run in The Drowsy Chaperone; Jo Anne is timeless and has never stopped working. We shared a dressing room in The Billy Barnes People when she was a new kid in town. Now, she makes time for people, bakes sinful brownies and is there for the animals. So, you be there too. The Magic Castle doors open at 7pm, the show begins at 8pm. Call (323) 851-3313 x434 for more info. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Actors and Others for Animals. This brings us to November 14th!
A&O President Jo Anne Worley Announces…
A Toast to Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In! November 14, The Actors and Others for Animals 2009 Celebration of Caring luncheon will feature much-treasured members of the zany cast. The usual suspects along with some added attractions! Barbara Feldon will be in from New York and many-time guest Nancy Sinatra, who was married to the show’s choreographer Hugh Lambert. The daffy dais will share experiences and talk about their pets. A great group for a great cause. “Actorsandothers.com” is the Web site, read all about it. Jo Anne even has a little column on the site about her little dog (with pictures!) called “Travels with Harmony,” which is very cute.
President Jo Anne wants you all to know that we are actively collecting email addresses for our newsletters in order to cut down on the use of paper. An incentive for this is a $500 shopping spree at Petco. To sign up, just go to our Web site and click on “Win a $500 Shopping Spree. For those who are new to us, Actors and Others for Animals is dedicated to the promotion of the humane treatment of animals. Our main mission is to curb the pet overpopulation problem by subsidizing spay/neuter surgeries. Together with other vital services, we are there to help pet guardians living on a low and/or fixed income care for their beloved companions.
Jo Anne called this morning (as I write) to tell me the stunning news that Henry Gibson died; such a beloved darling. I first met Henry while working in “Once upon a Mattress” in summer stock. He played the love sodden prince to Jo Anne’s overbearing princess—what a deliriously delicious odd couple. Precious imp, he always showed up for friends’ and Actors and Others for Animals’ events. So there will be an empty chair at the Celebration of Caring with a lot of sweet memories. Last year’s A&O event celebrated Carol Channing. For the program, Henry Gibson wrote a poem in Carol’s honor. I’m honored to share it with you:
RIP Henry Gibson.
By Henry Gibson
The eyelash is a friend to man,
It lives to serve the eye.
It fights the dirt and dust and grime,
And keeps the eyeball dry.
It’s busy as a bee.
It’s helping you and me.
