Valentine Romance/Sneak Peak Oscar Suite
A party to celebrate Valentine’s Day and the Oscars? Only Doris Bergman and Kathy Duliakas could pull that theme off with a bash at La Boheme featuring all the sights, sounds and smells of an eclectic group.
To get a head start on this year’s Oscar race to the suites, the third annual Valentine Romance/Sneak Peak Oscar Suite was held last week. Celebrities and VIP guests feasted alfresco on salmon, filet mignon and a variety of healthy salads designed by La Boheme’s Executive Chef Christine Barta. No need for dessert since Rubina’s Cake Shoppe, Antonia’s Nuts and Chocolate Vermeer provided chocolate treats inside the restaurant.
Benefiting charities Love Cures Cancer and Children’s Hospital, Los Angeles, the event was sponsored by Jurlique. Anti-aging was the theme and rightly so in this arena of everlasting youth.
When we arrived, we saw Chris McDonald making his way inside. Coincidentally, he was at the Pantages Theater that evening for the opening of “Spring Awakening.” Also spotted: Scott Baio and his new wife, Renee, as well as Marilu Henner, who has been doing the TV circuit re: her miraculous memory. Newly engaged Vivica A. Fox was psyching up for Valentine’s Day with her honey, who was flying in from their Atlanta home. Also in the house were Sofia Milos, Oscar Nunez and Mischa Barton.
Picture a room full of fashionable vendors and their displays. Okay, some were not so Valentine-ish, but nevertheless, lovely gifts for all. A vendor excuses herself from conversing with me to speak to and be photographed with a sweet young thing from Spartacus: Gods of the Arena. Ah, Hollywood.
Kevin Eubanks headed to the luggage table (Caribbean Joe, Traveler’s Choice, Eco Traveler, and Coleman Luggage) as he travels light. It seems that he prefers to carry his luggage on his flights.
Menbur suggested actors select the color and style of their glam cocktail purse for their next red carpet event. Twisted Silver displayed a unique table with its stunning jewelry made from old spoons, recycled glass and met-als.
Other celeb gifts: Emilie Sloan Seattle (totes), Angus Mitchell Hair Salon, Mon Atelier fashion loans, Chung Shi (Time to Balance) workout shoes, Aquamantra Water, Maximum Lash, Waialua (soda), Blue Angel Premium Vodka, Whirl-a-Style (accessories for French Twists), Jet Set Pet Sitters (charms), CellCeuticals, Model in a Bottle and Art Lewin (men’s fashion).
What would Valentines Day be without a weekend Kama Sutra kit? CardioWrap provided “sweaters” with a “how-to” on 56 ways of tying them. Spongelle gave out soapy shower accessories. Gold Canyon provided candles and ac-cessories.
Desperate Housewives’ Kevin Rahm has been busy planning his wedding with no Valentine’s plans in sight. Yes, he is the actual planner, since his fiancé is a surgeon with no extra time to spare. An inside scoop: think Malibu on the beach and casual.
“I’ve got some wicked ideas for Valentine’s Day — after this,” Rahm kidded.
The last time we saw Dancing with the Stars’ Edyta Sliwinska was on opening night of “Ballroom with a Twist” (choreographed by Louis van Amstel) at the El Portal Theatre. She stopped in to pick up a few things to heat up her Valentine’s Day with hubby, dancer Alec Mazo. When we see them danc-ing, we think no heat required!
