Villa Scalabrini, a Pioneer in Senior Care, Continues to Earn Praises
A tradition of caring since 1979
At Villa Scalabrini Retirement Center in Sun Valley, the atmosphere is always cheery and busy. From Christian’s smile who greets you at the Front Desk to the energetic presence of the Activity Director, busy at work on one of the many programs, a visitor can sense that this is a family, a group of people, residents, and staff who care about each other and interact just as a good old fashioned family would, with warmth and selflessness and a real sense of generosity and empathy.
Under the spiritual guidance of its Executive Director, “the Villa,” as it is widely known, serves its senior residents by offering them genuine hospitality, a familiar setting, beautiful green surroundings, and the health services that are such an important part of seniors’ wellbeing. Everything here is designed to make life comfortable and free of everyday chores for its residents.
Villa Scalabrini is steeped in rich history. Opened for residents’ occupancy on July 16, 1979, the 90-room facility, capable of accommodating up to 130 ambulatory senior citizens in single and double occupancy rooms, was dedicated on April 22, 1979. The dedication ceremony was attended by Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley, L.A. Archbishop Cardinal Timothy Manning, other civic and religious dignitaries, and a crowd of over 2,000 people.
Villa Scalabrini, located in Sun Valley, at the foothills of the Verdugo Mountains in the San Fernando Valley, is a modern, functional structure, universally praised in architectural circles as “a model home for senior citizens.” Among the special features of Villa Scalabrini are: a spacious and modern chapel for daily Mass, dining room, arts and crafts room, physical therapy room, dentist room, optometrist room, beauty parlor, barber shop, bocce court, and TV rooms. The building also houses the Sisters’ quarters, for the Sisters of the Augustinian Recollect Order who generously give their time and service to the community of Villa Scalabrini.
A more recent addition to Villa Scalabrini is the Active Seniors Community La Piazza, 19 brand-new individual residences, 2-bedroom units with a gourmet kitchen, private patios and carports, set in beautiful surroundings, with centralized services such as housekeeping, linen service, and gourmet meals prepared by a trained chef, which provide assistance while insuring a sense of privacy and independence. The ideal place for seniors who want to enjoy life at its best!
Villa Scalabrini Retirement Center offers four levels of care that cater to the “aging in place” commitment: independent, assisted, a memory care unit, and a skilled nursing unit. Services are tailored to the residents’ unique needs. While striving to maintain and respect the independence of the residents, the staff of Villa Scalabrini has the skills and the sensitivity to recognize when assistance is required.
An array of activities and social programs are offered so that each day is an interesting day, stimulating and fun. Meals are planned with a rich and varied menu to satisfy every taste and every special dietary need. Scheduled transportation service is available as well as medication management service by our trained and experienced health services staff.
All this and more make Villa Scalabrini an excellent choice for families searching a caring, welcoming, and comfortable accommodation for the seniors among them, a place that can really make a difference in the lives of loved ones, providing quality care with dignity and respect.
