West 3rd Street’s Annual Holiday Party
Another Los Angeles neighborhood showed off the spirit of the season, as the boutiques, restaurants and specialty retailers along the trendy West 3rd Street, stretching between Fairfax and La Cienega, held their annual Holiday Party last week. It was an evening of fun entertainment, refreshments and special bargains that drew the crowds on a chilly night.
It felt like Christmastime, so it was no surprise to see a Santa strolling the street. The jolly fellow was also stopping in a couple of shops to read “The Night Before Christmas” to children who were delighted to tell him how nice they’ve been. Some adults told him too. And many mentioned what’s on their wish list. Santa could have stayed right on 3rd Street to do his shopping and fulfill all the wishes because it seemed there was everything imaginable in the variety of stores there.
Maps were handed out to shoppers to let them know about activities and special discounts at stores and restaurants. There were lots of popular places, such as Joan’s on Third, the catering and dinning place that offered wines, cheeses and sweets. They also contributed to the merriment by handing out sparkly-light rings, adding to the glow along the festively lit street.
The celebration had more than 60 stores participating and among them were Hands-on-Third, The Knitter’s Studio, Taboo Hair Salon, Plastica, The Paint Shop, Blanche & Co., Bead Boutique, Kiss My Bundt and Portola Paints & Glazes, who were part of the treasure hunt raffle.
The West 3rd Street Business Association (WTSBA), a non-profit organization of businesses located on West 3rd Street between Fairfax and La Cienega, was the driving force behind the festive block party. A great gift to the shoppers was the complimentary valet parking that night, part of the ground-breaking public valet service launched last month by the WTSBA and L.A. City Councilman Paul Koretz. They hope to remedy the frustration and congestion often experienced by the difficult parking situation on weekends along the popular stretch of West 3rd Street. All those shops and easy parking too. Oh, it’s going to be a jolly holiday.
