WOW, the Emmy Winners and Events We Really Enjoyed
The Emmys had a few surprises and a lot of effort by host Neil Patrick Harris to put a new spin on the awards. The busy look and cutesy bits on the CBS broadcast were a little clumsy at times, but with his usual wry humor Neil was always likable and earnest about his duties. He may have lost out to Jon Cryer (“Two and a Half Men”) for the Supporting Actor in a Comedy, but the “How I Met Your Mother” star gave a winning performance at the helm of the TV Academy’s big night.
At its heart, the show honors the best in television, and no one could argue that when Bryan Cranston was named Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama. It is his second Emmy for the AMC series “Breaking Bad,” but he was deeply moved by a rerun of the honor. “I’m a poor kid from the valley. I don’t know what I’m doing up here. I feel like Cinderfella. I stand here a humble man,” Cranston said with genuine humility. He kissed his wonderful wife Robin before he took center stage, and it was hard to imagine that his gut-wrenching performance as the devoted family man who turns into a desperate drug dealer comes from the same guy who was nominated three times for playing the wacky dad on “Malcolm in the Middle.” Talk about versatility, wow!
Bryan thanked Glenn Close for not being a man, assuming she would have won in his category. Instead Glenn won for lead actress in a drama for the FX series “Damages.” Alec Baldwin won for lead actor in a comedy series for NBC’s “30 Rock,” and Toni Collette won for comedy actress in Showtime’s “United States of Tara.” Another surprise was Kristin Chenoweth, who sparkled in silver and took home a golden trophy for supporting actress in the comedy series “Pushing Daisies.” Her favorite show “Mad Men” got best drama and “30 Rock” won best comedy.
All the nominees became big winners when they made the rounds of the Emmy gift lounges around town. Even Neil Patrick Harris found time to drop by the WOW Creations penthouse suite at the Luxe Hotel on Rodeo Drive. The WOW celebrity event was fun for those who enjoy a luxury lifestyle. Cocktails with Partida Tequila were flowing, which produced lots of smiles captured in the SnapShotz photo booth. There was a tanning booth too, courtesy of the MetropoliTan Studio powered by Infinity Sun. Other beautifying experiences and products included customized Kroma Makeup, Beach Girls Suncare for hair, an exclusive Elyon cosmetics invite, the Joyfulbathco.com products and learning about the hydrating benefits of Kangen Water. Plus Gossip Collection swimsuits, Neff knit hats, Bota Box Wine, Avitae energy water, and the Wu-Yi Tea Company were there. The event featured helpful items such as the Socket Sense Surge Protector, and life-changing information from Dr. Rajesh Khanna about Lasik and refractive surgery.
Of course every celebrity let out a big “Wow!” when they chatted with the reps from the historic Royal Hawaiian Hotel, called the “Pink Palace of the Pacific” in the heart of Waikiki. Many started planning a getaway on the spot. Bridgetta Tomarchio, very sexy in her role on “Californication,” had a great sense of humor about getting a Royal Hawaiian lei.
The Johnny Rockets VIP gift card was another treasure appreciated by the famous folks who enjoy great food in a nostalgic diner setting. Their entire menu is ultra-yummy. Wow’s Mark Harris certainly showed all his guests a great time. At Harris’ event and the Emmy Awards Governors Ball, the new Fling Chocolate line was introduced, it’s lo-cal and so delicious it made every feel like a winner. That deserves another “Wow.”
