Dr. Gary Huizenga Sept. 13, 1945 – July 22, 2010
Dr. Gary Huizenga was born in Chicago in 1945. In 1989 he graduated from Cleveland Chiropractic and, with partner Dr. Ramesh Bassiri, opened Toluca Lake Chiropractic in 1992.To those who knew him, he was simply “Dr Gary,” always donning the panache of a Southern Californian and the down-to-earth warmth of a Chicagoan. His genuineness of heart and infectious smile were a perfect complement to his tireless gift for helping people. Dr. Gary served on the National Board of Chiropractor Examiners for 10 years, as well as adding his gifts to another of his passions: animals. As an animal chiropractor, Dr. Gary was as close to Dr. Doolittle as it gets.
When Dr. Gary’s hands weren’t healing, they were usually building. His friends are sure that Tim Allen’s Home Improvement was an autobiography of Dr. Gary. And then, there was golf. The teddy bear lost his teddy and became a bear. A true competitor in all that he did, from avid golf to a black belt in karate, Dr. Gary was an over achiever. But that is why we loved to be around him; he challenged us and made us feel like we were the most important person in the room. Toluca Lake lost a great friend and a brilliant doctor, but Heaven gained “our Dr Gary.” He is survived by his son, Bradley Huizenga.
