Hoover High’s boys’ basketball team smothered two opponents before topping Eagle Rock, 70-45, in a consolation game of the Providence High Paul Sutton Tip-Off Classic Tournament last Saturday.

The Tornadoes absorbed a 67-62 setback to Malibu, but slashed Oakwood (84-55), and blasted Pasadena Armenian Benevolent Union (85-28).

Teo Davidian, who had nine points, six rebounds, six assists with five steals, was named to the all-tourney team, and was in the middle of a third quarter run that saw Hoover (3-1) outscore the Eagles, 26-9.

The Tornadoes were in front, 31-20, entering the third quarter and then tallied 14 of the next 19 points including a three-pointer from Kevin Nazari (14 points) with less than four minutes left as they pulled ahead, 45-25.

Eagle Rock’s Chaevon Gaines scored 32 points in a 74-72 victory over South Pasadena in an earlier match, but was held to a mere five points against Hoover.

In other action center Arthur Terzyan accounted for 19 points and 12 boards in Glendale’s 69-58 shelling of Hollywood in the third-place contest of the Burbank Holiday tourney on Friday.

The Nitros’ only loss came at the hands of Village Christian, but jumped out to a 13-point lead before the Sheiks (2-2) came within 54-47 with slightly more than five minutes left in the fourth quarter.

Terzyan tallied 10 points in the opening quarter as the Nitros (3-1) forged a 19-12 lead, however Hollywood got within 21-17 and less than five minutes showing before the half. Glendale responded with a 13-4 blitz as the quarter came to an end.

When forward Alex Miralis (14 points with 11 rebounds) nailed a trey the Nitros held a 34-21 edge at the half.

Kyle Leufroy dropped in 28 points and Noah Willerford tossed in 24 points for St. Francis versus San Bernardino as the Golden Knights (2-1) walked off with a 67-53 decision in the Rose City Classic at Maranatha High on Friday.

In another matchup Kyle Currie’s 17 points weren’t enough as Crescenta Valley fell to Crespi, 65-63, in the San Fernando Valley Invitational on Friday.

Other Falcons’ contributing were Berj Krikorian, who added 15 points, while Eric Bae had 12 points with five caroms.
