“Mrs. Scrooge” Comes to Santa Monica
Even in L.A., albeit no snowy winter wonderland or festive vibe that the East coast so naturally affords, plenty of quality family holiday entertainment exists for kids—ages 1-93!
One perfect kickoff to the holiday season is “Mrs. Scrooge,” at The Edgemar Center for the Arts in Santa Monica. With grinches and scrooges “stealing” the show and Christmas spirit and cheer, in various venues, “Mrs. Scrooge” joins in on this classic theme.
This hip Hollywood version is a thoroughly modern take on the classic Dickens tale, sure to delight the audience, in our city of angels.
Director/playwright Diane Namm (also Founder/Artistic Director of West of Broadway) has penned and directed modern adaptations of many timeless stories with rich moral messages—with West of Broadway’s mission to promote literacy and social responsibility through interactive theater.
The combination of a talented ensemble, a fresh script and a gifted director makes this show a winning treat. As a teen angel eagerly tries to earn his wings, he is presented with the challenge of transforming greedy grumpy Mrs. Scrooge (just after she fired her personal assistant on Christmas Eve), while she rants and raves about no gifts, trees, or holiday joy for any girl or boy.
As she dozes off to dreamland, Mrs. Scrooge is jarringly awakened by the Ghosts of her Christmas past, presen, and future, finally waking up to smell the latte and all the other simple pleasures that await.
“Mrs. Scrooge” plays at The Edgemar Center for the Arts (2437 Main St.) Saturdays at 3pm and Sundays at 2pm through December 20. For more information, visit Westofbroadway.org.
