Environs, a Place for Dance, Enjoyed by All

Choreography by JT Horenstein, dancers Kelli Erdmann and Jake Bevens in “Environs.”

Edge Performing Arts Center, one of the nation’s most reputable training facilities for commercial dance — featuring jazz, modern fusion, ballet, tap and salsa, presented three dazzling evenings of dance extravaganzas at the Nate Holden Performing Arts Center. The spectacular production Environs delighted its audiences with cool summer entertainment. Producer Bill Prudich and Program/ Scholarship Director Randy Allaire were beyond thrilled and felt very fortunate and privileged to be involved with such a special company and most talented ensemble of up and coming dancers and choreographers. The performances benefit The Dance Fund, a non-profit corporation that provides scholarships and program funding for its professional program, advocating dance with outreach, education, performance and preservation.

Edge is home to an all star roster of industry performers, inspiring generations of dancers, and has worked with the likes of Lady Gaga, Christina Aguilera, Prince and Michael Jackson. It’s a truly magical experience seeing the end result of the fruits of their labors — a diverse blend of unique dance styles and numbers, inspired by the choreographers’ own visions and imagination. The eclectic and most extraordinary numbers ranged from “Ringmaster,” inspired by a traveling circus in the Dust Bowl era… to “In Transition,” inspired by the subways of NYC… to “Tribe,” inspired by an African tribal celebration of diversity and unity. Each piece was filled with heart and soul; beautiful, dynamic rhythm and theatrics, along with festive, creatively themed costumes, music and special effects.

With the rising popularity of reality shows such as So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing with the Stars, it is quite refreshing that various forms of dance (ballroom, salsa, ballet, modern, jazz) is attracting the public in groves, and raising awareness of this exquisite cultural art form.
