It’s A Gas at Second City for Kids!
By Bonnie Priever
From the comedy empire Second City Training Center in Hollywood, which has brought us comic geniuses John Belushi, Joan Rivers, Tina Fey and Steve Carell, to name a few, comes Big Bad Wolf and His Gassy Gang, a hilarious, interactive improvisational show where kids in the audience have a role in re-telling stories of classic and not-so-traditional beloved fairy tale characters in storybook land!
Directed by Joshua Funk, artistic director of The Second City, Big Bad Wolf and His Gassy Gang is a delightful reinterpretation of the classic fairy tales told for generations.
Premiering in Chicago, this show now makes its Los Angeles debut, introducing the fun and creative world of improvisational theater to west coast kids. It’s almost an “extreme fairytale makeover,” where the reputation of the ‘Big Bad Wolf,’ in stories such as The Three Little Pigs and Red Riding Hood, gets reinvented, as cleverly portrayed in a number where ‘Wolf’ (Michael Naishtut) brilliantly laments over his sorry reputation. Eager to win the respect of his gang of peers, played by Abhaya Hess, Sachiko White, Susan Keller, and David Carmon, the wolf sings an original, creative piece in hopes to gain popularity.
The ultimate message, revealed by the ‘Fairy Fartmother,’ is to be happy and content with one’s lot and comfortable in one’s own skin; an important message to take away for kids of all ages. So have yourself a gas and a blast at Big Bad Wolf and His Gassy Gang.
“Big Bad Wolf and His Gassy Gang” plays on Saturdays at 10am through November 21 at The Second City Studio Theatre (6560 Hollywood Blvd.). For more information, visit their Web site at www.secondcity.com.
