Love is a many splendored thing — until along comes infidelity. Two couples, both on the course to divorce, collide after an affair. Leaving behind a world of alcoholism, sexual dysfunction, and bad parenting, the foursome must decide on what (and who) is most important to them. Can betrayal actually get lovers back on track? Maura Campbell answers this question by taking seemingly likable characters, twisting them into selfish, unbearable pawns, and pitting them against the game of love.

The stellar cast — comprised of Adam Mondschein (Max), Jessica Noboa (Maddie), Avery Clyde (Stephanie), and Patrick Joseph Rieger (Sandy) — propel an age-old problem into new, uncharted territory by expertly blending song, dance, and duo-dialogue scenes.

The residue of a relationship gone sour long outlasts the lives of those involved. The hauntingly adolescent Kara Hume, playing four-year-old Daisy, is caught in a web of deceit from the quartet of friends-cum-foes. Hume delivers a heartbreaking performance not through words, but through chilling operatic verse.

Superb casting and composition combined with top-notch production design, costuming, and Maura Campbell’s tightly-sewn, tapestry-weave of a tale makes this final production of the 2014 season at The Road Theater Company one not to be missed.

Flower Duet runs until July 27th with shows Friday and Saturday at 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm. The Road Theater is located at 10747 Magnolia Blvd. North Hollywood, CA 91602. Tickets are $34, students and seniors $17.50. Special group rates available. Purchase at www.roadtheater.org.
