“Kings of the Dance 2011.”

COSTA MESA, CA – Kings of the Dance is a dance collaboration between Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa and impresario/producers Ardani Artists of New York. The first incarnation premiered in February 2006 at Segerstrom Center and starred Angel Corella, Johan Kobberg, Ethan Stiefel, and Nikolay Tsiskaridze, four extraordinary male dancers who have been the toast of the classical dance world. The production included world premier works created to showcase each of the gentlemen’s individual strengths and talents. Kings of the Dance 2011 is an entirely new production with an entirely new cast that will make its American debut during Segerstrom Center’s 25th Anniversary Season this Oct. 21–23.

This all-new program will star five of today’s most celebrated male ballet dancers: Guillaume Côté from the National Ballet of Canada, Marcelo Gomes of American Ballet Theatre, David Hallberg of American Ballet Theatre and the Bolshoi Ballet, Denis Matvienko of the Mariinsky Ballet, and Ivan Vasiliev of the Bolshoi Ballet. The men will dance seven American premieres created especially for them by Mauro Bigonzetti, Nacho Duato, Marco Goecke, Edward Clug, Patrick De Bana, Jorma Elo, and Gomes. Kings of the Dance 2011 received its world premiere in Moscow on Oct. 5.

Segerstrom Center is known as one of the nation’s leading presenters of important dance. Reviewing its roster of 50 companies that have performed there since the Center opened in 1986, names pop out like Bolshoi and Kirov, Britain’s Royal Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, Hamburg Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Merce Cunningham Dance Company, New York City Ballet and, holding the crown for most engagements (21), American Ballet Theatre.
