No Boundarys Breaks Walls

Noel Olken, writer/performer of “No Boundarys” seen here at the Hollywood Fringe Festival @ Theatre Asylum located at 6320 Santa Monica Blvd. in Holly-wood. “No Boundarys” plays June 9, 14, 16, 17, 21, & 23.

No Boundarys breaks conventions and reveals intimacies while looking at the jumbled map of life on a relaxed camping trip. The show features a fine performance from Noel Olken, along with humorous and touching insights discovered along the way.

No Boundarys shows Olken and his unseen friend Bill H. as they hike into camping facilities at Boundary Waters inNorthern Minnesota. They spend a couple of days shooting the breeze, drinking, and smoking a little weed as they bond over humorous stories. Olken drops pretensions and shares widely on his life, attempting to come to terms with his father’s death. Will the trip enable him to find peace and possible direction with how his life should proceed?

Olken employs no sets, but ably uses a tent and other camping gear to establish location.

Even with minimal movement, directors Olken and Jeff Gardner keep energy levels high with Olken’s flowing and passionate stories. Some of his most energetic action involves setting up and taking down the tent during the show, as the production focuses on storytelling and conversations with his buddy.

Timing is spot on with sound, music, and lighting cues, adding momentum to the production.Gardner’s excellent sound design brings a nice atmosphere and realism to the piece.

The show features many hilarious moments, but does contain adult language and situations, some of which add little to the play.

No Boundarys features fine acting and creative work as it examines life, death, and the direction our lives will follow.
