No theatrical review for you this time … so I’d like to tell you about a recurring local event you should definitely “check out” with family and friends….

Ladies Night in Magnolia Park – the Fourth Friday Night of Each Month

If you are not yet aware of this monthly “community party” in Burbank … you should be! It is a ball! The brainstorm of a couple of local shop owners along Magnolia’s eclectic strip of shops … (between Hollywood Way and Niagara Street) it started up about three years ago, with only a few shops participating. Now, including dozens of stores … Vintage Clothing, Consignment, Rockabilly & Pinup “Re-makes,” Art Galleries, Antique Stores, Jewelry Vendors, Hair and Tanning Salons … and more, keep their doors open until at least nine o’clock each month for the event. Many offer free snacks and drinks, and the whole street is buzzing with friendly energy! A wide variety of delectably sinful food trucks (at least 25 of them) are lined up, and booming with business, as folks pick their favorites, while getting to know each other. It has recently become a wildly popular local monthly affair! My vintage clothing store, “Hubba Hubba!” is rarely open for the event, because as a “theater critic,” I’m usually booked to review plays on Friday nights. Last week, with no scheduled play to cover … I decided to stay open, and “join the party!” As the longest running vintage store owner in the area (31 years) I am happy to say … I couldn’t hope for a finer group of friendly and supportive competitors. If one of us doesn’t have what you need … we all most happily send you to the shop that just might have it … Having not participated in “Ladies Night” in ages … I was amazed to see how this neighborhood “happening” had blossomed! The street was jam packed with friendly shoppers of all ages … from kiddies to their grandparents. Laughing, talking, eating, and shopping with old friends, while making new ones … this event is no longer just for the “ladies!” Do make a point of experiencing this lively neighborhood affair. This area is often referred to as “The New Melrose” … which was the “vintage mecca” in past years. While there, or even sooner … do check out our newest recently opened “trippy and unique” shop, “Bearded Lady” on Magnolia at Niagara Street … and give them a Burbank “welcome.” So, mark your calendars – the fourth Friday night of each month. The street is electric! You never know who you may run into … or what vintage treasure you may find that you just can’t live without! Let them know you heard about it from Pat at The Tolucan Times! By the way, folks … This is your local “free” newspaper, and is in newsstands all over town (25,000 circulation). When you have an event or a business to promote … Do consider us for your advertising needs. Much less costly than the major, larger publications … and “hitting” local customers … our advertisers report a good response! Just call (818) 762-2171 and ask for Alicia.

Back next week with more random ravings!
