Sorry folks – No theatre reviews this week!
As it turns out. I had a painter in my house for nine days! Now I’m buried in a raging sea of my beloved collectible stuff… deciding daily what to toss out… and “where” to put “what.” You’ve all been there… It’s a lot of work!
Vaud & the Villains at “Fais Do Do” – (Saturday Nights)
I did climb out of the rubble at home one night though, and had a rockin’ good time! What a fabulous band! Only formed a year ago, the versatile 17 member, nostalgic super group, are sizzling hot, wildly entertaining, and like no other band I’ve ever seen! Sort of a New Orleans “Mardi Gras” party atmosphere, they energetically crank out a variety of music styles… including vaudeville, zydeco, calypso, 1940’s, ballads, soul… and more! With a jammin’ horn section, great vocalists/musicians, a duo of scintillating saucy cabaret dancers, and a truly ego-less camaraderie… they are a mad & musical happening, destined for major recognition! You must experience their magic somewhere, sometime soon! Check them out at www.vaudandthevillains.com.
Cheers to the Oscars®
With a new format, a gorgeous set design, and all the usual glitz and glam of the past… this year’s Academy Awards® show was a winner! Hosted charmingly by song ‘n’ dance “hunk” Hugh Jackman, millions of cinema fans worldwide “cheered ‘n’ jeered” the extravagant fashions, Oscar winners and acceptance speeches, as if we were actually there! Kudos!
Back next week with my “take” on Ray Bradbury’s popular Irish play, “Falling Upwards” – opening locally at the beautiful El Portal Mainstage. I’ll also go to the Alexia Robinson Theatre, to catch the Tony award winning “For Colored Girls…” A wonderful script… It is a powerfully poignant and emotional journey into the hearts, minds, and concerns of most young women on the journey to self-fulfillment.
