The 25th Anniversary C.A.R.T. Celebration Show, Oct. 9
The 25th anniversary show for C.A.R.T., the California Artists Radio Theatre group, is going to be exceptionally special on Saturday, Oct. 9th.
“We’re presenting selections from many of our favorite shows, from The Wizard of Oz to Arsenic and Old Lace,” said Peggy Webber, the founder and creative director of C.A.R.T., who is always at the helm.
The great radio shows will be presented by an impressive troupe of performers, including Jo Anne Worley, Samantha Eggar, Monte Markham, Norman Lloyd, Patricia Herd, Richard Herd, Marvin Kaplan, Simon Templeman, Amelia White, James Lancaster, Paul Keith, John O’Callaghan, Bob Legionaire, Tom Williams, Ian Abercrombie and special guest Shelley Long.
The festivities will feature musicians Jay Munns, Barbara Senn, and Salli Price, plus Tony Palermo on sound. Veteran announcer John Harlan will add his golden voice to the outstanding broadcast.
Jo Anne Worley, of Laugh-In fame, has brilliantly played the horrible Madam Morrible in the hit musical Wicked. Now she’ll bubble as Glinda the Good Witch in C.A.R.T.’s Wizard of Oz segment.
“That’s the joy of doing radio, you can transform into any character,” she said. “You don’t need definitive makeup. You read the script and perform and create something dimensional with the power of your voice. It involves the imagination of your audience, and that creates the magic.”
Worley urges theater lovers to come and enjoy the celebration. “Don’t miss this opportunity to see radio.”
Everyone is invited to get tickets for the 1:30 p.m. matinee held Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Beverly Garland Theatre, at the Beverly Garland Holiday Inn, 4222 Vineland Avenue (south of Moorpark), North Hollywood.
