“The British Beat” Performed by the Pacific Ballet Dance Theatre at the Ford Amphitheater on Saturday, Aug. 24
It is the perfect combination of setting, music, and dance — exquisite classical ballet and contemporary dance styles performed to an exciting British beat. The Pacific Ballet Dance Theatre (formerly the Media City Ballet Company) is presenting “The British Beat” at the Ford Amphitheater, Saturday, Aug. 24, a sensational show from PBDT’s acclaimed artistic director and choreographer Natasha Middleton.
“The celebration will capture the evolution of English music through dance,” Middleton says. “We feature Sir Edward Elgar’s classic “Pomp and Circumstances,” and highlight the past British music invasion with the works of The Rolling Stones, Sir Elton John, and today’s sensation Adele.” It will be a powerful show with a classical ballet foundation, thanks to Middleton’s roots with the Ballets Russes. Contemporary and athletically strong numbers are also at the heart of the show, exploding with theatricality from more than 25 first-class international dancers along with impressive local talent.
“The Beatles’ ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ and John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ are featured, plus Phil Collins’ ‘Take A Look at Me Now,’ Pink Floyd, Supertramp, and music from the James Bond movies are used to present dance in an imaginative way,” Middleton explains. “This is our third year at the Ford under the stars. The experience is breathtaking, with the stage built into the hillside framed by trees. The atmospheric setting is perfect for us with the moonlight beaming down on our dancers. It will be a memorable night if our audience starts singing along to their favorite songs, as they feel the joy of the dancers moving to the beat of the British invasion tunes.” That would be sensational.
