Time Marches On: Adults, Keep Out! by C.B. Parello
By Natasha Lewin
Youthful angst bursts the magical bubble of carefree innocence in this journey through the make-believe world of Glimmermore. The story follows seven young people on the verge of puberty, who find refuge from the real world in their secret haven tucked away from the pressures of impending adulthood.
Complex dialogue, musical numbers, and dancing are deftly handled by the young cast — although some of the pieces come off a bit saccharine. Adults, Keep Out! is a good time for anyone who feels young at heart.
The dual role of Brandon/Gandor, sorcerer and teen, (performed by Patrick Censoplano) played out in a rapid-fire musical number and was well received. And Pat/Lord Blackthorn (performed by Obi Ndefo) as both the instigator of fantasy and the voice of reason in this journey towards adulthood delivered a solid performance.
Rules of friendship and the pangs of growing up all come into question in this musical comedy written by Playhouse artistic directors Evelyn Rudie and Chris DeCarlo. Adults, Keep Out! is directed by DeCarlo and Playhouse associate director Serena Dolinsk. With powerful words and energetic music composed by E. Rudie and Matthew Wrather, this musical-comedy is a tribute to Ogden Nash, Gilbert & Sullivan, and J.R.R. Tolkien.
