Beer Connoisseurs: It’s Time to Meet Tony
Tony’s Darts Away, once a seriously divey locals’ restaurant/bar that inhabited a desolate stretch of Magnolia Boulevard since the 1960s, re-opened in April 2010 and quickly emerged as one of L.A.’s most critically acclaimed craft beer bars under new owner Tony Yanow.
It didn’t take long before Draft Magazine named Tony’s Darts Away as one of “America’s Best Beer Bars” in 2011, and RateBeer.com ranked Tony’s Darts Away as among the top 25 beer bars in the world. Locally, L.A. Weekly heralded Tony’s Darts Away as L.A.’s “Best Valley Dive Bar.”
Sticking to his motto of “Bringing the fine beers of California to the fine people of Los Angeles,” Yanow has traveled all over California — from the Oregon border to the Mexico border – to source the best craft beers the state has to offer.
About half the 38 taps feature core beers while a selection of seasonal and limited edition beers will rotate on the others. To encourage patrons to try an array of brews, the pub offers beer flights. Friendly and knowledgeable bartenders guide customers to find their new favorite brew. Served in specialty glassware to maximize the experience, an “Honest Pint” is priced at $4.50 for most brews.
To eat, there is a selection of locally sourced artisan sausages — made with California meats, as well as vegan sausages and a variety of toppings. Weekend brunch is also available, catering to vegans, vegetarians, and meat lovers alike!
