In 1944, the Cruz family introduced Ernie’s Taco House #1 located in Lincoln Heights, California. Following the success of Ernie’s Taco House #1, the Cruz family opened up Ernie’s Taco House #2, which opened in 1950 on Colorado Blvd. in Eagle Rock, California. It remained Ernie’s Taco House up until 1955, for which it was then renamed Ernie Jr.‘s Taco House. Eventually, it was relocated to its present location on Broadway Ave. when the CA-2 Freeway opened in 1973.
In 1953, the family opened up Ernie’s Taco House #3 in North Hollywood, California. Their last location, Ernie Jr.‘s Taco House #4, was opened by Albina Cruz in Pasadena, California in 1955 and remained until 1998.
Today, the Cruz Family is proud to serve you at the Eagle Rock location because, as Ernie states, “When you have several restaurant locations, you can’t provide that ‘personal attention’ to our patrons who visit us here at Ernie Jr.‘s Taco House.”
The flavors of Ernie Jr.’s Taco House were created and developed by the Cruz Family in the cultural region of Northern Mexico. It’s here in which the family began creating authentic Mexican recipe dishes.
With the exception of some new items, not much has changed throughout the years on Ernie’s restaurant menu, even with the change of times and with many types of updated Mexican foods, such as infused and trendy updated flavors spun off ‘traditional recipes’, Ernie Jr.‘s has and will always stick to the roots of their family recipes, which keeps their patrons coming back for more of those ‘Flavors of Northern Mexico’.
