Mayfield Senior School Celebrates 80 Years in Pasadena!

Head of School, Rita McBride, welcomes new students to Mayfield Senior School!

Mayfield Senior School welcomes freshmen from 32 different schools, as the newest members of the 300-strong student body. The average class size is 16 students with a faculty-to-student ratio of 1:8. The exciting year ahead will offer many opportunities for all students to experience the depth of what our school motto, “Actions Not Words,” holds for them.

As a Catholic school in the Holy Child tradition, Mayfield Senior School offers an education with distinctive spirit, grounded in a philosophy of service to others, fostering a student’s intellectual, spiritual, artistic, emotional and physical gifts, thereby enabling them to make meaningful contributions to society. Financial assistance and scholarships are available.

Mayfield Senior School’s academic programs connect our students with the community in many ways, including: Arts Trek, which takes all students off campus exploring the arts in the larger community; Theatre, Dance and Music Conservatories perform at a variety of venues throughout the Pasadena area; Senior Service Projects provide a self-directed, service immersion program where senior students volunteer for 45 hours at a site of their choice; a continuing service outreach program to Cambodia tutoring children at a local school; as well as a variety of field trips, service work and classroom excursions throughout the Los Angeles area.

The rigorous academic program includes 21 Advanced Placement and Honors courses. The curriculum is underscored by a philosophy of educating the “whole child.” Mayfield’s Conservatory for the Arts offers advanced study in five artistic disciplines: Creative Writing, Dance, Photography, Visual Arts and Vocal Music. Participating in the Prep League of CIF, Mayfield supports 20 athletic teams in 11 sports.

In addition to the vibrant academic and co-curricular programs, Mayfield is also pleased to announce the commencement of an extensive remodeling project. Preliminary construction began this summer, and will include the addition of six new classrooms and a state-of-the-art Library and Technology Center. The new wing will be open for use in the fall of 2012.
