New Community Jewish High School Offers Intellectual Imagination, Religious Values

Dr. Bruce Powell, Head of School, chats with students.

New Community Jewish High School is a school of the 21st century — a high school driven by the most profound Jewish and American values. As a coed, 9th-12th grade college preparatory high school, our vision is summarized as “rigorous academics with unrelenting support.” We combine advanced placement academics with advanced placement kindness in a pluralistic Jewish learning environment. Our definition of “educational greatness” is not measured by standardized test scores alone. Rather, it is measured by true success in life; by how outstanding universities accept and value our graduates; and by the creativity, imagination, deeds, and moral actions of our students and our alumni.

At New Community Jewish High School, intellectual imagination and ethical action are inseparable. We teach students how to analyze, synthesize, and evaluate concepts, values and knowledge. We encourage new ideas, new thinking and invention. We teach students Jewish values so that they may develop and embrace the moral courage to do the right thing.

We begin our 9th year offering 133 academic courses, five world languages, 48 electives and 14 Advanced Placement courses. We also offer 22 competitive athletic teams, Israel exchange programs with three high schools in Israel, overnight grade level trips and an All School 3-night retreat, extracurricular offerings, musical theatre and drama, a science academy, a comprehensive college guidance program, social action and interest clubs, leadership opportunities, bus transportation from selected areas, and free teen membership at The JCC at Milken in West Hills. Attend an open house for prospective families on Oct. 31 at 10:30 a.m., Dec. 12 at 10:30 p.m., or Jan. 30, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Please RSVP online at www.ncjhs.org  or call the Office of Admissions at (818) 348-0048.
