A Summer School Alternative

How Supplemental Education Can Benefit Your Child When School Isn’t in Session

Guillaume Levrault, Managing Director of Huntington Learning Center in Encino, wants your child to enjoy reading with Huntington’s “Summer Reading Adventure.”

“Many children could use extra help in school and summer is a great time to get ahead or address problem areas,” says Ofra Weinberg, Director of the Huntington Learning Center of Encino. “Certainly, learning doesn’t have to stop because school is over. Summer is a perfect opportunity to boost your child’s chances for success in school.”

Since most schools in L.A. have slashed their summer programs, try exploring other supplemental education alternatives—like a learning center. Weinberg lists the following advantages of supplemental education in the summer:

Summer is an ideal time to fine-tune or improve skills. The hustle and bustle that accompanies the school year can be a great source of stress for many students who must juggle homework, activities, work and more. Without the pressure of typical school-year obligations many students are better able to reap the benefits of tutoring during the summer months.

Your child is the focus. It’s not unfathomable that a child who learns at a different pace or grasps concepts in a different manner might fall behind in a class of 20 or 30 students. At a learning center, teachers work with students individually or in small groups of three or four.

Individualized teaching methods help get to the root of the problem. At Huntington, we evaluate each child’s strengths and weaknesses. Afterward, a program of instruction is customized for the child—one that will meet his or her precise needs.

Student progress is carefully measured. Inevitably in a classroom full of children, it is difficult for one teacher to closely monitor the progress of every single student.

Yet another advantage of working with Huntington is convenience.

“At Huntington, we accommodate families’ schedules,” says Weinberg.

“Our goal is to give children the best education possible and we work with families to make the process as easy and stress-free as possible.”
