Blue’s on Mend

Carl Crawford is a difference maker at the plate, on the bases and in the outfield. Acquired from the Boston Red Sox at the trading deadline last season, the left fielder drilled two home runs in last Sunday’s 2-0 win over Milwaukee at Dodger Stadium.

Crawford, who is batting .307, hit solo shots in the first and fifth inning, while Clayton Kershaw (3-2) tossed a shutout for eight innings, striking out 12 with no walks and four hits for the Blue Crew (12-12).

Matt Magill’s big-league debut was impressive, but the bullpen faltered as Carlos Gomez swatted a two-run homer in the seventh inning as the Brewers held on for a 6-4 decision on Saturday.

Magill went six and two-third innings, fanning seven and walking two, allowing four hits and two runs (earned).

Andre Ethier hit a solo shot in the eighth inning, while A.J. Ellis and Luis Cruz each drove in a run.

In Friday’s 7-5 win by the Dodgers, Adrian Gonzalez (two hits) cracked a two-run double in the seventh.

The Dodgers led 1-0 in the first inning on Ethier’s single, and it became 2-0 after Crawford homered in the third.

Ryan Braun belted a solo smash for Milwaukee in the fourth, and Yuniesky Betancourt added a two-run blast in the fifth inning to make it 3-2.

Gonzalez’s run-scoring double in the fifth inning plated Crawford and tied it at 3-3.

The Dodgers took two of three games from the New York Mets at Citi Field including Thursday’s 3-2 gem by Hyun-Jin Ryu, who gave up three hits in seven innings, with three walks, eight strikeouts and one run (earned).

Matt Kemp (two hits), Ethier and Juan Uribe all delivered a run batted in for the Dodgers, who managed six hits off four New York pitchers.

Kemp (three RBIs) had a two-run homer in the sixth inning, but the Mets rallied for a 7-3 win on Wednesday as Jordany Valdespin launched a grand slam to right field in the 10th.

Mark Ellis (four hits) clubbed two homers, scored twice and had four RBIs in the Dodgers’ 7-2 victory on Tuesday against the Mets.

Kemp (two hits), Ethier (one run) and A.J. Ellis (two RBIs) all doubled, while Justin Sellers (three hits) had an RBI and a run scored.

Kershaw lasted five innings, striking out five with four walks, surrendering three hits and two runs (earned).
