Blue’s Working

With the All-Star Game approaching, the Dodgers (42-45) are playing their best baseball having gone 12-3 since June 22, and pulled within four and a half games of Arizona in the National League West.

This past weekend in San Francisco, the club swiped two of three from the Giants as Clayton Kershaw (8-5) held the hosts to three hits over eight innings and one run (earned), with three strikeouts and one walk in Sunday’s 4-1 win.

Yasiel Puig opened the ninth inning with a single, Adrian Gonzalez had an infield hit, Andre Ethier was walked intentionally before A.J. Ellis cleared the bases with a two-out double.

“This is a big win today,’’ said Ellis, a catcher who is hitting .267. “We need to keep the momentum. I felt like I was floating when I got that hit.”

Ethier’s single in the second scored Hanley Ramirez, who tripled. Ramirez, who is batting .410, also doubled.

On Saturday, Madison Bumgarner (9-5) gave up a two-run homer to Tim Federowicz in the fifth, but San Francisco’s three-run second held up in the 4-2 win.

Bumgarner delivered seven innings, allowing three hits, two runs (earned) with nine strikeouts and no walks, and at the plate walked with the bases loaded for a run, and later added a sacrifice fly.

Juan Uribe doubled, tripled and homered while driving in seven runs during the Dodgers’ 10-2 rout of the Giants on Friday.

Hyun-Jin Ryu (7-3) toiled six and two-third innings, fanning three, walking three while issuing four hits and two runs (earned).

Michael Cuddyer had two hits including a homer as he drove in three runs and scored three runs for Colorado at Coors Field on Thursday as the Rockies pushed aside the Dodgers, 9-5.

Gonzalez (four hits) drove in two and scored one, while Ethier and Matt Kemp each finished with two hits.

Zack Greinke (6-2) lasted five innings and gave up five runs (earned) versus the Rockies on Wednesday, but the Dodgers held off the Rockies, 10-8, as Ramirez (four hits) scored three runs and drove in one.

Puig had three hits, while Gonzalez, Ramirez, Ethier, Ellis and Uribe, all had two hits as Kershaw cruised to an 8-0 complete-game shutout victory over Colorado on Tuesday.
