On Super Bowl Eve, actress Cleo King hosted her Open Mic Night at Open Stage West in Sherman Oaks. The evening was action-packed with tons of talented stand-up comics, actors, singers and musicians. Each performer had five minutes to showcase their special talent to the delight of a packed house.

‘We don’t do mean here. We do love here.’—Cleo King

As host, King made it a point for everyone to support the performers with a positive attitude. “We don’t do mean here. We do love here,” she said, leading the crowd into a clapping chant as “We are Family” played while everyone introduced themselves to each other before the show.

She was brilliant at keeping the show going by staying on top of her list of performers so all could get onstage. With mostly stand-up material, some performers brought tracks to sing along to, and others performed moving dramatic monologues.

Not only was King incredibly funny herself, this reviewer was impressed with the way she used comedy improv to make us all laugh in between performances. The variety and uniqueness in the show was especially wonderful to experience.

The audience was very supportive and this reviewer, stepping in from the outside, felt like an insider instantly. “When we share our talent with each other, nothing gives me more joy,” King said at the end of the evening.

The space at Open Stage West was very comfortable, the sound system was great and parking was easy and free.
