Los Angeles has become a world-class destination for art, and the LA Art Show brings together hundreds of eclectic galleries from L.A. and around the world, showcasing their best and brightest modern and contemporary artists. This year’s event, the 24th annual, took place last week at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
A highlight of the Show is the Opening Night Gala “Kick-Off Party” that unites collectors, artists, celebrities and art patrons in support of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Actress Kate Beckinsale was the official host of the evening, while musician Gavin Rossdale served as Art Ambassador. Over 20 select L.A. restaurants offered hors d’ oeuvres and desserts, and there was no shortage of cocktails, wine and craft beers. Many attendees took the opportunity to get dressed up in their artistic finery making for epic people watching. It was the place to be and be seen!
The art was diverse and multi-media. Of note was Anthony James’ “Portal Icosahedron” sculpture of steel, glass and LEDs. “Staring into infinity,” was how one attendee described it. Just one of the many visual wonders on display.
Next year’s event reportedly moves to February, but make plans now to attend.
