If you are interested in a show about the power of inspiration and positive thinking, run don’t walk to the TAG Studio Solo Festival at The Actors Group Studio on W Magnolia Blvd. in Burbank.

American History W is one of 12 solo shows of the first three weekends of the festival. Four shows advance to the “Best Of” weekend August 18 and 19.

Written and performed by Anna Yosin, directed by Jessica Lynn Johnson and set in a futuristic dystopia that once was America, the show brings important women throughout American history to life.

Famous women from Maya Angelou to Ellen DeGeneres to Harriett Tubman to Hillary Clinton are used to prove that faith and belief can overcome any obstacle or hurdle.

The language is simple, courageous and energetic. The words cut deep and hard and do what great theatre is supposed to do: make you consider your circumstances and how you can better them for the benefit of humanity.

Johnson, a Best National Solo Artist Award recipient, understands the passion, power and progress of these women and adds to their legacies with her directorial intelligence and wisdom.

All in all, Yosin and Johnson put time in perspective and create a one-woman show with enough steam, gas and oil to make a substantial difference on the Los Angeles dramatic landscape.

“American History W” plays at The Actors Group Studio located at 2813 W Magnolia Blvd. in Burbank. Tickets are $15. For information and reservations call (818) 300-2885.
