What does a European country that boasts only 6,000 residents do once it goes broke? Why, declare war on the United States of course! After a wine company in Southern California rips off the one and only export from the dwarfed Duchy of Grand Fenwick, the tiny territory plans on losing a war with the U.S. in hopes of receiving reparations for their loss. Much to their chagrin, proud Grand Fenwicker, Tully Bascom, has a more virtuous plan of how the battle should be fought.
Set in the turbulent time of the ‘60s, The Mouse That Roared is a satirical look at the Cold War era craziness that ensues after a dangerous nuclear discovery rears its ugly head. Kevin Becker gives heart to noble Tully Bascom — a Gomer Pyle-esque servant of the Grand Fenwick’s national forest. Also notable is Steven Kirk playing the Nixon-meets-Carter bomb-fearing President of the United States.
The Mouse That Roared is a jocular look at the effects economics, nuclear warfare, and hometown loyalty has upon even the tiniest of nations.
