Get ‘Caught’ at the Morgan Wixson

Docile wife Mary (Denise Carole) takes control when she suspectslodger Stanley (Tristan Wright) of illicit acts.

The comedic play Run for Your Wife holds the record for longest run (9 years) on London’s West End. Now comes the hilarious sequel, Caught in the Net.

Currently at the Morgan Wixson Theatre in Santa Monica, this amusing farce on marriage, deception, and double lives has all the elements of a “Shakespearean reality show,” where eventually the “truth will out.” In this case, John Smith (Michael Silva) blissfully leads a double life with two wives (so coincidentally timely with HBO’s final season of Big Love); until, alas, with the high tech machinery of the present, i.e, Internet, his two teens, one from each wife, become acquainted online, and the plot quickly thickens.

The outrageous antics, witty dialogue, physical humor (such as revolving doors), combined with colorful props and costumes that Smith dons as clever disguise, brings a laugh a minute, and is quite influenced by the works of George Bernard Shaw and Moliere, in plots of mistaken identity. Greedy in love, John Smith’s secret slowly unravels, as he gets his comeuppance and just can’t seem to fool the two clever loves of his life, Barbara Smith (Laura Buckles) and Mary Smith (Denise Carole). The “big shot philanderer,” an ordinary cabdriver, who has enjoyed his wife-sharing lifestyle for 17 years, will ultimately have the last laugh, as the joke’s on him. The play’s cleverly choreographed nuances and flamboyant characters will surely resonate with aficionados of British farce and satire.

The show runs Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. through February 19. The Morgan-Wixson Theatre is located at 2627 Pico Blvd. For more information, call (310) 828-7519 or visit
