‘God and Sex’ a topsy-turvy world of love at Santa Monica Playhouse

Review by Karen Alexander

Imagine this scenario: A bride and groom and a maid of honor who just happens to be the bride’s ex-lover! What could possibly go wrong?

Playwright Wendy Michaels “takes you there” with her brilliant writing and vision in God and Sex.    Michaels, along with writing this play and her many other accomplishments, co-writes, co-produces and co-stars in the award-winning web series My Sister is So Gay, featuring the beautiful Loni Anderson (TV’s WKRP in Cincinnati).

God and Sex, a comedy-drama, takes one on a titillating adventure and detour where the “normal” is getting a couple nowhere, and they find that divine intervention thrusts them into directions neither of them could have predicted.

Rebecca Lincoln and Donald Rizzo play the happy newlyweds Amy and Tim, and do it with such complete believability that you quickly believe they are your best friends. Dennis Delsing, Valerie Gould and Andrea Gwynnel Morgan brilliantly debut their first appearance at The Santa Monica Playhouse. The smoothly flowing dialog is spot-on and hilarious, and the set design by James Cooper conquers the small stage limitations.

God and Sex has something for everyone—bisexual, gay, straight, spiritual or atheist—eliciting chuckles and laughter.
