‘Dial “M” for Murder’

This well-known play is a classy staging of what later became a famous Hitchcock film. A delightful “oh-so-British” drawing room mystery-thriller, written with DELICIOUS twists and turns by Frederick Knott, is a most enjoyable production! Acclaimed director Bruce Kimmel keeps the surprises in check, never giving away the plot’s hidden gems before their time.

It is 1954 London, in a stylish British home, inhabited by Tony and Margaret Wendice, whose marital arrangement is a bit unique. Played with upper class charm by Adam Jonas Segaller and Carrie Schroeder – both performances are FLAWLESS! When a stranger arrives, under false pretenses, all manner of deception unfold. An EXCELLENT portrayal by Justin Waggle! One wildly detailed twist after twist unravels as we eventually figure out who’s who and how they connect. When one of this trio turns up dead, law enforcement shows up to investigate and solve the case.

Doug Haverty is a QUIRKY DELIGHT as Inspector Hubbard, well assisted by Michael Robb and Hisato Masuyama-Ball as his crime team.

  1. Kent Inasy has designed the GORGEOUS set and lighting and Angela M. Ead’s period costume design is, as always, a STUNNING work of art! This young artist and visionary has a great eye for wardrobe and never disappoints! Sound design by Steve Shaw and Grant Geissman’s incidental music perfectly enhances the overall vibe.

This is a classy and intriguing production. It looks fabulous, and will certainly keep you guessing from start to finish. Highly entertaining. Do venture out to see it!

Afterthought: The tricky thing about reviewing a mystery is telling you enough to entice you to see it, without saying too much and giving away the plot.
